Anchor Bommie Dive Site

Lady Elliot Island, Queensland

About this attraction

Anchor Bommie is one of Lady Elliot Island's underwater heavyweights. Rising 10 metres from the sandy sea floor in 21 metres of water, this impressive coral tower is riddled with ledges, caves and plenty of marine life. Schools of cardinalfish gather around the bommie while trevally cruise through in search of their next meal.

Peek into the nooks and crannies and you might spot coral trout, coral cod, moray eels, tasselled wobbegongs and even a Spanish dancer nudibranch if you're lucky. The sandy surrounds are known for whitetip reef sharks, stingrays, turtles and garden eels, while manta rays regularly soar overhead for a pit stop at the bommie's natural cleaning station.
