$afety Deposit Box

'$afety Deposit Box' by Good New$ Bank (Cassie Thring and Nicholas Hanisch), is a playful, layered installation created for the Bentham Street Gallery. Riffing on the Bentham Street Gallery as literal safety deposit boxes, Good New$ Bank uses familiar signifiers of wealth—fat stacks of cash, diamond rings—a dose of humour, in‑jokes and hidden symbols to ask, "What does our community value?" These artworks highlight the tension between outward displays of wealth and the poignancy of sentimental, treasured objects. Visitors are encouraged to scan the QR code by the galleries to contribute to the growing Good New$ database, a participatory archive of what people choose to value and why. Nicholas Hanisch and Cassie Thring's collaborative practice, Good New$ Bank, is a hopeful resistance to cynicism: bored with widespread nihilism, they imagine communities where good news is valued above all. Their work explores how society measures success and wealth and proposes an alternative through art. Presented by the City of Adelaide in collaboration with Good New$ Bank, Exhibition Studios and Karl Meyer.

'Through Line' Exhibition Drawn from Goulburn Regional Art Gallery's Collection

'Through Line' brings together key works acquired by Goulburn Regional Art Gallery over the past ten years. This decade has seen purposeful and ambitious collecting that has significantly shaped the permanent collection. Spanning painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, ceramics, audio-visual and installation, these acquisitions reflect a genuine breadth of artistic practice. In Through Line several major works are presented for the first time, including large-scale installations of commanding presence and pieces which show artists at the height of their careers. The exhibition resonates with the community and locale while speaking to concerns pertinent to all: the environment, identity, and connection to history and Country. The Gallery over this period has actively engaged with artists who are energetic, bold and innovative. These are key contemporary practitioners working at the forefront of their disciplines: honing techniques, embracing new technologies and unconventional materials, and developing interactive and immersive artworks that reflect and respond to the world around them. Artists celebrated and widely exhibited nationally and internationally sit alongside strong emerging voices, all united by ambition and the Gallery's deep commitment to supporting living artists.

"Tapestry of colour' by Jill Bond SALA exhibition for 2026

The paintings of Jill Bond are typically vibrant using the full range of colors available in which ever medium she uses; her definitive style has struck a chord with art enthusiasts around Australia. Jill has had joint and Solo exhibitions in South Australia and Victoria. Born in Loxton, Jill grew to love the evocative landscape of the mighty Murray and its gnarled gums, the red soil and saltbush, of the Mallee and its deep blue skies. After studying ceramics at the Adelaide School of Art, the call of the outback took her to the station country of Northern New South Wales, Western NSW and Queensland as a Jillaroo and Governess. Eventually returning to Adelaide Jill worked on capturing the outback's intense colors exploring this in pastel and Acrylics. Since her recent retirement as a Dementia Specialist Advisor, Jill continues to explore different mediums and techniques, and is enjoying doing painting full time. This exhibition is part of the South Australian Living Artists exhibition at the Rainmoth Gallery and will run from the 2nd of August to the 30th of September.

'They Didn't Fit' Exhibition

My practice is inspired by a desire to connect people with the living world, through the details of an animal's fur, the shape of a tree, or moments of connection between species. I have long worked in acrylics for their practicality in remote settings, but have recently returned to printmaking. I'm drawn to its organic, layered process and the physical act of carving and printing. Through my work, I aim to share the beauty of nature and encourage others to care for and protect it. I established Happy Echidna Art to develop my practice, showcase printmaking, and share this creative process with others." 'Tasmanian Light' an exhibition by Sally James

Tasmanian Art Society exhibitions are open Saturdays and Sundays and are held in the historic Lady Franklin Gallery which was built in convict times. This month's exhibition is by award-winning artist Sally James. She specialises in reduction linocut printmaking in oil, building up layers of transparent colour to create the effect of warm, glowing light. She combines different techniques to create free-flowing soft edges and textures, manipulating the oil inks with hand, cloth and brush. Sally's art often depicts the wild landscapes of Tasmania, but she also frequently draws inspiration from areas within and alongside the suburban areas of everyday life, always striving to portray the feel of the place that inspired her.

His gentle melodies and less-is-more production make for homely yet sophisticated pop songs that have seen the Australian-born, London-based artist become an unassuming cult favourite, beloved with fans and critics alike. Debuting as #1 Dads with 2011's Man of Leisure, Iansek further showcased his sincere, quietly innovative songcraft with 2014's ARIA-nominated About Face and 2020's Golden Repair. At a time when climate and biodiversity crises are accelerating, Nature offers both a powerful wake-up call and a message of hope. Reconciliation is still possible. Presented in French with English subtitles, this is a rare opportunity to experience this extraordinary film on the big screen.
