Newcastle punches well above its weight for live events, and this spring is a good example. The Civic Theatre’s program rolls through everything from A Taste of Ireland in early September to Choirboys and Kim Wilde in November, while out at Broadmeadow the Entertainment Centre and McDonald Jones Stadium have huge nights lined up — The Wiggles for the little ones, and stadium shows from Foo Fighters and Robbie Williams scheduled for mid-November.
A stadium night and a heritage theatre night are very different outings, though — and the access questions that matter change with them.
Heritage theatres reward a little homework
The Civic is one of Newcastle’s loveliest rooms, and like many older theatres it has its own quirks — where the lifts are, which entrance is step-free, how far your seats are from an accessible toilet. None of that needs to be a surprise.
