Plein Air Down Under Outdoor Painting Festival

Mandurah and Pinjarra, Mandurah, Western AustraliaTue, 22 Sept 2026

About this event

With workshops, paint-outs, exhibitions, awards and prizes, demonstrations and artist talks, the Plein Air Down Under festival celebrates everything to do with outdoor painting.

Plein Air Down Under invites artists and art lovers to join in the fun of the Peel Region's outdoor painting festival. Come and paint or come and watch for free.

Over AUD13,000 in cash and prizes are on offer for artists accepting the challenge of capturing the character and beauty of Mandurah and Pinjarra's natural and built environment.

This year's festival brings together esteemed and award-winning artists including Feature Artists Greg Barnes (USA), Leon Holmes (Mandurah) and Andy Dolphin (Mt Barker), and Guest Artists Leanne Pearson (Quinns Rock), Georgia Mansur (NSW) and Linda MacAulay (Victoria), alongside first-time and enthusiast painters who are all encouraged to capture the beauty of Western Australia's stunning landscapes.

Plein Air Down Under is Australia's largest outdoor painting festival, attracting artists from around the world and celebrating the tradition of painting 'en plein air', a French term meaning 'in the open air'.

It is expected to attract more than 200 artists.

Established in 2019 by the not-for-profit Mandurah Plein Air Artist Group, Plein Air Down Under offers a unique opportunity for artists to paint and exhibit their works in stunning outdoor settings.
