A Volcano in my Backyard - Art Exhibition by Perdita Phillips

Daylesford & District Historical Society Museum, Daylesford, VictoriaSat, 13 June 2026, 11:00 am – 3:00 pm

About this event

What happens when an artist fascinated by geology, history, and printmaking is let loose amongst the old maps, glass plate photographs, and other treasures held within the bowels of the State Library Victoria? Find out at Daylesford Museum's latest special exhibition, A volcano in my backyard? – a showcase of art by Perdita Phillips.

Perdita connected with Daylesford Museum as part of her recent State Library Victoria/Baldessin Studio Creative Fellowship. Her connection to the area is a property boasting a mini volcanic lava vent. Preparing for the exhibition, she photographed some of the museum's geological collection and participated in field trips to significant geologic locations across the surrounding region. Looking for evidence of vulcanism, glaciation, and mining, she created prints, drawings, and stereograph cards.

The display of Perdita's work will be supported with maps, geological samples, and photographs from the museum's collection, making connections between art and science.

Daylesford Museum is home to the largest archive of historical artefacts and documents in the Central Highlands.
