An Amalgamation by Taylah Richards
About this event
Taylah is an emerging multidisciplinary artist based in Ballarat, Victoria. Her practice spans ceramics, drawing and painting, exploring the space where the ordinary begins to unravel into the surreal. Influenced by the human form, domestic objects, and the natural world, she creates works that blur the boundaries between function and sculpture, familiarity and imagination.
Born in Daylesford in 1994, Taylah spent her childhood immersed in the landscapes of regional Victoria before later settling in Ballarat. These environments continue to shape her practice, informing a visual language that is both playful and quietly unsettling. Vessels sprout limbs, everyday objects become living forms, and familiar shapes are transformed into curious characters that encourage viewers to look beyond first impressions.
Through ceramics, drawing and painting, Taylah invites audiences into a world where humour, curiosity and transformation coexist. Her work celebrates the strange beauty hidden within everyday life, encouraging moments of pause, wonder and quiet reflection.
Alongside raising a family, Taylah has developed a dedicated studio practice while completing a Bachelor of Visual Arts at Federation University. Her commitment to making has seen her exhibit regularly throughout the Ballarat region in both solo and group exhibitions, and in 2025 she received the Atelier Art Award in recognition of her emerging practice.
