Celtic Graveside Yarns

Yass Cemetery, Yass, New South WalesSat, 26 Sept 2026, 10:30 am – 12:30 pm

About this event

Step into Yass Valley's past and discover the real stories beneath the headstones.

Walk among graves dating back to 1843 and uncover the lives of some of the people who shaped, and sometimes shocked, early Yass Valley. Meet explorer Hamilton Hume, pastoralist A.B. Triggs, those whose lives were caught up in the notorious crimes of William Munday, and many more.

Hear stories of achievement, love and loss, secrets, scandal and tragedy, as our experienced guides share the history behind the names and monuments of one of regional Australia's most historic cemeteries.

This fascinating two-hour guided walking tour was recognised by the NSW Parliament in 2024 and is presented by the volunteers of the Yass Valley History Centre.

Please note: The walk will be at a gentle pace; however, the cemetery has uneven ground in places and is not suitable for strollers or people with significant mobility difficulties.
