The 2026 Bald Archy Prize Exhibition - Violet Town

Violet Town Community Hall, Violet Town, VictoriaSat, 17 Oct 2026, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm

About this event

The 2026 Bald Archy Prize is coming to Violet Town Community Hall, bringing one of Australia's most entertaining and irreverent art exhibitions to The Goulburn Region. The exhibition showcases comic and satirical portraits celebrating Australian personalities through humour, parody and caricature.

Celebrating its 30th year in 2026, the Bald Archy Prize is Australia's premier satirical portrait prize and a playful counterpoint to the Archibald Prize. Created by Peter Batey OAM in 1994, it celebrates wit, creativity and the lighter side of portraiture, with works from established political cartoonists through to enthusiastic amateur artists.

Expect familiar faces, sharp observations and plenty of laughs as artists turn their attention to Australians from politics, sport, entertainment and public life. This year's exhibition attracted a record 70 finalist portraits, making 2026 the Bald Archy's biggest year yet.

Adding to its famously unconventional character, the prize is judged by Professor Maude Cockatoo, a sulphur-crested cockatoo and the competition's celebrated avian art critic.

Touring regional communities across New South Wales and Victoria, the Bald Archy offers an accessible and entertaining art experience designed to make visitors think, talk and, most importantly, laugh.

Plan your visit and catch the 2026 Bald Archy Prize during its month-long stay in Violet Town.
