About this event

The Special Olympics Australia National Games will bring more than 850 athletes with intellectual disability and autism to Melbourne for five days of competition and celebration.

Athletes representing every State and Territory across Australia will compete in 13 sports at venues throughout Melbourne, including athletics, basketball, bocce, equestrian, football, golf, gymnastics, netball, swimming, table tennis, tennis, ten-pin bowling and DanceSport (demonstration sport).

The Opening Ceremony will take place on Monday, 19 October, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Margaret Court Arena, bringing athletes, coaches, volunteers, families and supporters together to celebrate the start of the Games. The National Games provide athletes with the opportunity to compete at a national level, represent their State or Territory and connect with teammates, coaches, families and supporters from across the country.

The Games also mark 50 years of Special Olympics in Australia, celebrating five decades of inclusion through sport and the contribution of athletes, volunteers, families and communities across the movement.

The Special Olympics Australia National Games are proudly supported by the Significant Sporting Events Program and the Victorian Government's Community Support Fund.
