The Shape of Listening

In response to Daniel O'Toole's Voices from the Void, Adam Postrach presents 'The Shape of Listening' an improvised vocal performance that explores listening as a form of connection.

Drawing on his classical training and daily practice of singing in dialogue with the environments he inhabits, Postrach enters a sonic conversation with the installation's responsive drums.

Through breath, resonance, movement, and sustained vocal tones, he navigates the shifting soundscape created by the work and its audience.

The performance transforms the gallery into a living instrument, blurring the boundaries between performer, participant, architecture, and artwork.

In this encounter, the voice becomes a way of mapping space, revealing hidden resonances, and giving temporary form to the invisible relationships that exist between bodies, sound, and place.

The exhibition features nine drums, displayed as wall hanging objects, that when approached, begin to vibrate and produce a sine wave.

The drum skins, painted black, act as a void drawing focus to the sound which is being projected; singing to the audience and harmonising with the other drums, the room becomes an instrument and the audience the players.

This interactive installation is an invitation to connect, play and collaborate through sound and movement.
