Chauncy Vale Wildlife Sanctuary 80 Year Celebration

Chauncy Vale Wildlife Sanctuary, Bagdad, TasmaniaSat, 12 Sept 2026, 1:00 pm – 7:00 pm

About this event

Celebrating 80 years of one of Australia's oldest wildlife sanctuaries.

There are few places in the Southern Midlands with a story quite like Chauncy Vale Wildlife Sanctuary.

This year marks 80 years since Chauncy Vale became a wildlife sanctuary, making it one of Australia's oldest sanctuaries and one of Tasmania's most significant places where natural environment, heritage, education and community come together.

Chauncy Vale is much more than a beautiful place to visit. It is a place with a remarkable family legacy, a rich natural environment and a history that continues to inspire people today.

The 80th anniversary of Chauncy Vale Wildlife Sanctuary provides an opportunity to celebrate this remarkable history and the vision of the Chauncy family.

It is also a chance to recognise the many people who have cared for the sanctuary, shared its stories, supported its conservation and introduced generations of visitors to this special place.

Included will be guided walks, displays, and nature. Be in it: face painting and a screening of Nan Chauncy's book "They Found a Cave" at dusk.
