Capital Film Festival at the NFSA

National Film and Sound Archive of Australia, Acton, Australian Capital TerritorySat, 24 Oct 2026

About this event

Discover bold new voices and compelling stories at the Capital Film Festival at the NFSA. Across three special screenings, filmmakers explore identity, memory, history and belonging through powerful contemporary cinema.

Take a journey through the evolution of non-fiction storytelling in The Story of Documentary Film, a fascinating exploration of one of cinema's most influential forms. From early pioneers to modern innovators, this screening celebrates the enduring power of documentary filmmaking.

Experience the Australian premiere of No Good Men, a thought-provoking documentary that examines masculinity, relationships and social expectations through intimate personal stories. Honest, challenging and deeply human, it opens the door to important conversations about contemporary life.

Also screening is Yellow Letters (Gelbe Briefe), an evocative documentary that uncovers family histories, migration stories and the lasting impact of the past. Through personal archives and memories, the film reflects on connection, identity and what we inherit across generations.

Presented as part of the Capital Film Festival, these screenings offer a unique opportunity to engage with filmmakers, discover fresh perspectives and experience independent cinema in the NFSA's award-winning heritage building. Join fellow film lovers in Canberra's home of screen culture and celebrate the stories that shape how we see ourselves and the world around us.
