How accessibility scores work.
The 0–100 score is a summary of the accessibility evidence we hold for a venue — not a certification, and not a substitute for the specific details that matter to you.
What the number means
A higher score means more accessibility features are documented for that venue, with stronger supporting evidence — things like step-free entry, accessible toilets and parking, lifts, hearing loops and quiet spaces. A lower score usually means less is documented, which is not the same as the venue being inaccessible. Where the evidence isn’t sufficient to score a venue at all, we show a data-status indicator instead of a number rather than guessing.
The baseline
Venue records begin as a structured accessibility baseline built from permitted public sources, standardised across Australia and supported by a confidence level. The score summarises how much documented accessibility evidence exists for a venue — more documented features and stronger evidence mean a higher score.
Verification
Venue operators and councils can verify records. A verified badge means a person has confirmed the details — those records are marked separately from the AI-assisted baseline, so you can always tell which is which.
Community confirmation
Visitors can confirm individual details on a venue page (“still accurate”) or suggest corrections. Every confirmation strengthens the record; every correction is reviewed by our team.
The score is a starting point — your needs are specific
Access needs are individual. A venue that scores well overall may still be missing the one feature that matters to you, and a modest score may include exactly what you need. That’s why the venue directory lets you filter by specific features — wheelchair access, step-free entry, accessible toilets and parking, hearing loops and more — instead of relying on the number alone. Filter for what you need; treat the score as a summary of how much we know.
What scores are not
- Not a certification or audit.Scores summarise documented evidence; they don’t replace a professional access audit, and a venue’s conditions can change.
- Not a guarantee. If a specific detail is critical to your visit, we still recommend confirming it — and if you find our record is wrong, the “Suggest an update” form on every venue page goes straight to our team. Corrections from people with lived experience are the fastest way the data improves.
- Not a ranking of worthiness.A low score often just means a venue hasn’t documented its access features anywhere we can read them. Operators can claim their venue and fix that in minutes.
