About this tour

Both Kenai Peninsula highways in one bundle: self-guided GPS audio driving tours for the Seward Highway (Anchorage to Seward) and the Sterling Highway (on to Homer) — 350+ stories that play automatically as you drive. One purchase covers everyone in the car; separately they cost $34.98. Plays through Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, or Bluetooth — fully offline through the long dead zones. Written by a born-and-raised Alaskan.

To be clear: this is an app on your own phone, not a live guide — the vehicle isn't included. Start anywhere, drive either direction, split it across days — no date, no time limit, no expiry. Love it or your money back — request within 24 hours of purchase.

Highlights: Turnagain Arm's bore tide, Girdwood, Resurrection Bay, the Kenai River, Ninilchik's Russian church, and the Homer Spit.

Setup takes about 2 minutes — full steps are on your Viator ticket and in your confirmation email (check spam). In the app, your pass appears as "The Kenai Peninsula Bundle."

  1. 1

In the year 2000, the federal government sat down to name the handful of roads in America that aren't a way to get somewhere — they're the reason you came. The Seward Highway made the list. One hundred and twenty-seven miles from the edge of Anchorage to an ice-free harbor on the Gulf of Alaska, and it holds three separate scenic-byway titles at once, which is a bit like a horse winning the Triple Crown and then being told it also has a lovely singing voice. By the end you'll roll into a working fishing port that is the starting line of the most famous sled-dog race on earth, the finish line of a mountain footrace that locals will tell you, with total sincerity, is harder — and the front door of a national park you can only reach by boat, on foot, or by one single road that we'll point out on the way in.(3 hr)

  2. 2

A peaceful wetland refuge on the southern edge of Anchorage. Stroll along the boardwalk to spot migratory waterfowl, eagles, and spawning salmon against a backdrop of mountain scenery.(30 min)

  3. 3

A dramatic stretch of highway pinned between steep mountain walls and ocean waters. Stop at Beluga Point to scan the waters for white beluga whales and watch the famous 38-foot bore tide roll in.(1 hr)

  4. 4

A historic gold-mining valley tucked into the Chugach Mountains. Discover Virgin Creek Falls, learn the history of Crow Creek, or detour to the Alyeska Tram for views above the tree line.(30 min)

  5. 5

Located at the head of Turnagain Arm near Portage, this wildlife refuge sits surrounded by rugged peaks, offering views of Alaska's native wildlife and dramatic glacier valleys.(30 min)

  6. 6

The gateway to the only road-accessible section of Kenai Fjords National Park, providing access to hiking trails and breathtaking views of ancient ice.(pass by)

  7. 7

The historic end of the Seward Highway and Mile 0 of the Iditarod Trail. Take in sweeping views of Resurrection Bay, Mount Marathon, and a bustling coastal fishing harbor.(1 hr)

  8. 8

The scenic mountain junction where the Sterling Highway turns west toward the coast. A rich wetland area known for birdwatching and surrounding alpine peaks.(pass by)

  9. 9

Trace the vibrant, glacier-blue waters of the upper Kenai River through Cooper Landing, an area steeped in native heritage and world-class trout fishing.(pass by)

  10. 10

The legendary meeting point of the Russian and Kenai Rivers. Hear stories of thousands of years of indigenous settlement at K'beq' and world-famous salmon runs.(pass by)

  11. 11

The central hub of the Kenai Peninsula situated right on the Kenai River. Famous as the spot where the world-record 97-pound sport-caught king salmon was landed.(pass by)

  12. 12

A historic village featuring the iconic Holy Transfiguration Russian Orthodox Church perched above the coastline, offering views across Cook Inlet to four active volcanoes.(pass by)

  13. 13

The westernmost point of the North American highway system. Look out over bluff-top vistas, spot bald eagles, and see tractors launching fishing boats directly into the surf.(pass by)

  14. 14

The literal end of the road—a 4.5-mile needle of land extending into Kachemak Bay packed with working harbors, boardwalk shops, arts culture, and ocean views.(30 min)
