'A Few of Michael's Favourite Things' - An Exclusive Wine Dinner

We're taking an exclusive deep dive in the boss man's cellar. Join Michael for an incredible seven-course dinner, paired with a seriously impressive line-up of favourites from his collection. This special evening will be hosted by Nick Ryan, senior wine writer for The Australian and a columnist for The World of Fine Wine, Halliday Magazine and Robb Report contributer and an in-demand presenter at wine events around the world. We'll kick things off with Pol Roger Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill, before diving into a special vertical of Jacques Carillon's Grand Cru Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet, exploring how this legendary Burgundy vineyard changes from vintage to vintage. From there, we head to Piedmont with an amazing collection of Bruno Giacosa Riservas, including the individually numbered 2001 and 2004 Barolo Riservas, the iconic Asili Red Label Barbarescos, and the Falletto Vigna Le Rocche Riservas — widely regarded as the pinnacle of Giacosa's Barolo. To finish, few wines in the world provide a more fitting finale than 1998 Egon Müller Scharzhofberger Riesling Eiswein - a legendary Mosel dessert wine of breathtaking purity, longevity and rarity - from Michael's longtime collaborator and friend. From Greenock in the Barossa Valley, Alkina has quickly become one of the region's most exciting producers, working with organically farmed vineyards and old Grenache vines to make detailed, site driven wines that put a strong focus on geology and place. Across in McLaren Vale, S.C. Pannell has become one of the defining names of modern Australian Grenache. Established by Stephen and Fiona Pannell in 2004, the estate has helped champion a fresher, more expressive interpretation of McLaren Vale, with Grenache sitting at the heart of the range. Throughout the evening we'll taste a stellar line up from both producers, exploring how Barossa Valley and McLaren Vale Grenache differ in site, structure and personality. "Meet the Maker" Happy Echidna Art

This month Cafe 1871 is showcasing local artist Rebecca O'Leary of Happy Echidna Art. Rebecca's inspiration and ethos: "Working with nature has been a lifelong dedication. My practice is inspired by a desire to connect people with the living world, through the details of an animal's fur, the shape of a tree, or moments of connection between species. I have long worked in acrylics for their practicality in remote settings, but have recently returned to printmaking. I'm drawn to its organic, layered process and the physical act of carving and printing. Through my work, I aim to share the beauty of nature and encourage others to care for and protect it. I established Happy Echidna Art to develop my practice, showcase printmaking, and share this creative process with others." "Tapestry of colour' by Jill Bond SALA exhibition for 2026

The paintings of Jill Bond are typically vibrant using the full range of colors available in which ever medium she uses; her definitive style has struck a chord with art enthusiasts around Australia. Jill has had joint and Solo exhibitions in South Australia and Victoria. Born in Loxton, Jill grew to love the evocative landscape of the mighty Murray and its gnarled gums, the red soil and saltbush, of the Mallee and its deep blue skies. After studying ceramics at the Adelaide School of Art, the call of the outback took her to the station country of Northern New South Wales, Western NSW and Queensland as a Jillaroo and Governess. Eventually returning to Adelaide Jill worked on capturing the outback's intense colors exploring this in pastel and Acrylics. Since her recent retirement as a Dementia Specialist Advisor, Jill continues to explore different mediums and techniques, and is enjoying doing painting full time. This exhibition is part of the South Australian Living Artists exhibition at the Rainmoth Gallery and will run from the 2nd of August to the 30th of September.

'$afety Deposit Box' by Good New$ Bank (Cassie Thring and Nicholas Hanisch), is a playful, layered installation created for the Bentham Street Gallery. Riffing on the Bentham Street Gallery as literal safety deposit boxes, Good New$ Bank uses familiar signifiers of wealth—fat stacks of cash, diamond rings—a dose of humour, in‑jokes and hidden symbols to ask, "What does our community value?" These artworks highlight the tension between outward displays of wealth and the poignancy of sentimental, treasured objects. Visitors are encouraged to scan the QR code by the galleries to contribute to the growing Good New$ database, a participatory archive of what people choose to value and why. Nicholas Hanisch and Cassie Thring's collaborative practice, Good New$ Bank, is a hopeful resistance to cynicism: bored with widespread nihilism, they imagine communities where good news is valued above all. Their work explores how society measures success and wealth and proposes an alternative through art. Presented by the City of Adelaide in collaboration with Good New$ Bank, Exhibition Studios and Karl Meyer.

2026 SA Spring Garden Festival
